Basbousa

Basbousa is a very popular Turkish cake which is also very famous in the Middle Eastern countries. It offers a very flavorful, moist, and creamy experience. Basbousa is served with sugar syrup having the flavor of lemon and rose water. Coconut powder is also used but this is optional. If you don't like coconut powder then skip it.

Although it may look very difficult to make Basbousa at home but it is not the case. There are many different methods to prepare Basbousa. People use their own unique methods in different countries.

I am sharing the Basbousa recipe that is very easy to make at home. All you need to do is mix all the ingredients well and bake the Basbousa.
 Ingredients for Basbousa    
Semolina                                 2 cup
Eggs                                         2
Almonds                                 1/3 cup
Sugar                                       3/4
Refined butter(melted)         1 cup
Yogurt                                     1 cup
Coconut powder                   50 g
Milk                                         250 ml
Baking powder                       1 tsp
Vanilla essence                      1 tsp
Ingredients for sugar syrup
Sugar                                       1 1/2 cup
Water                                       1 cup
Rosewater                               2 tsp
Lemon                                     1 slice
Method
  1. Add almonds in boiling water and boil them for 20 seconds. After that peel off the skin of almonds and keep it aside. 
  2. Take a pan, add water, sugar,  rose water, and a slice of lemon. Boil for 10 minutes. Your sugar syrup is ready. Keep it aside to cool down at room temperature.
  3. Beat the eggs well,  add sugar in the eggs, and mix them thoroughly. Add melted butter, yogurt, vanilla essence and mix them. 
  4. Now add semolina and baking powder and mix them well. Then add coconut powder and mix.
  5. Take a baking tray and grease it with oil. Put all the mixture in the baking tray and leave for 20 minutes.
  6. Make patterns of your choice on the tray and spread peeled almonds on the tray.
  7. Preheat the oven at 180 degrees C for 20 minutes. 
  8. Bake the basbousa for 35 minutes. 
  9. Pour the sugar syrup on it and enjoy.
