Karhi Pakora Recipe- A Delicious Yogurt Curry With Pakoras

Karhi or Karhi Pakora is a traditional food of Pakistan. It is soupy in nature and has a lot of Pakoras(fritters) in it. It is a very flavorful and aromatic dish. It has got all the ingredients in it that a food lover will surely appreciate.

Karhi is made by utilizing gram flour and yogurt. Yogurt is blended with water to make a smooth shake known as lassi. I am sharing with you my unique and spicy Karhi Pakora Recipe. You can enjoy Karhi with bread or boiled rice.

Ingredients for making Karhi

  • Yogurt                                          1 Kg
  • Gram flour                                   2 cups
  • Red pepper                                  3 tbsp
  • Turmeric                                      2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder                      1 tbsp
  •  Fresh coriander leaves              As required
  • Salt to taste
Ingredients for vegetable fritters(Pakoras)

  • Gram flour                                 2 cups
  • Chopped spinach                     2 cups
  • Chopped cabbage                    1 cup
  • Chopped onions                       3
  • Ginger, garlic paste                  1 tbsp
  • Green chilies                             4
  • Red pepper to taste 
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry
Ingredients for tempering
  • Chopped onions(small-sized)    2
  • Cumin seeds                                1 tsp
  • Curry leaves                                  3
  • Oil                                                 Half cup
Method for making vegetable fritters(Pakoras)
  1. Add all ingredients to the gram flour
  2. Add a little water to make a thick paste
  3. Heat the oil in a pan and deep fry the fritters
  4. Fry until they become golden brown
  5. Put them aside for adding them in Karhi later
Method for Tempering
  • Fry cumin seeds, chopped onions, and curry leaves in oil for few seconds
Method for making Karhi

  1. Add three liters of water and gram flour in yogurt and blend the mixture well. 
  2. Add red pepper, salt, coriander powder, turmeric, and cumin seeds to the mixture and whisk well.
  3. Take one large stockpot or saucepan and heat it.
  4. Put the prepared mixture in the saucepan.
  5. Keep stirring for the first 15-20 minutes.
  6. Cook the mixture for one hour.
  7. Stir in between so the lumps don't form.
  8. Temper the Karhi with the tempering mixture.
  9. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves.
  10. Add vegetable fritters(Pakoras) in Karhi and cover the lid for 10 minutes.
  11. Serve with boiled rice, Naan or roti.
